How the reveal happened

The name came at the end of “Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios”, a studio tour video. In it, executive producer Todd Howard walks past a display case of the studio’s games and says: “Everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.” The logo follows, in the series’ classic font.

A short teaser then shows an Elder Scroll half-buried in blowing sand, with this quote attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, in 4E 206:

“The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.”

Bethesda’s main X account posted the title with “Embark on your next journey to Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.” The post passed 6.7 million views within a day. Bethesda Game Studios added: “Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.”

What Sentinel tells us about the setting

In Elder Scrolls lore, Sentinel is both a port city and a kingdom in Hammerfell, the desert province of the Redguards on the Iliac Bay. Players have visited it before in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (1996), The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard (1998) and The Elder Scrolls Online. The teaser’s sand, the Hammerfell queen and the Moth Priest all point the same way.

Our math The date in the quote, 4E 206, is five years after the events of Skyrim (4E 201). That doesn’t confirm when the game is set. It only dates the quote. Former Skyrim lead designer Bruce Nesmith has said he hopes an Iliac Bay setting would bring boats and sea exploration, but that is his wish, not a confirmed feature (via VGC).

Will Elder Scrolls 6 come to PS5?

Bethesda hasn’t said. Microsoft owns Bethesda and has released several of its games on PlayStation in recent years. Starfield, though, launched as an Xbox and PC exclusive. Until Bethesda lists platforms, treat any PS5 or Switch 2 claim as speculation. GameSpot notes that most of Bethesda Game Studios is now working on the game, and that Howard has said “we know we need to get it right and it’s been a long time.” A release more than 15 years after Skyrim is already certain.
