Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ mode is free to play right now, through November 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PT. Xbox Wire and a Steam news post both describe full access to DMZ, including the new X01 area from Season 1. The trial does not replace owning Modern Warfare 4 if you want the campaign or regular multiplayer.
Last checked on November 8, 2026. The trial is already live. From this Sunday afternoon in Spain (CET), that end time is Wednesday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. Our math converted from 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Xbox Wire published the window on November 5, and Steam’s official Call of Duty news post repeats the same start and end: November 6 at 12:00 p.m. PT through November 11 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
When the trial ends where you are
| Region | Trial ends | Label |
|---|---|---|
| US Pacific | Wed Nov 11, 10:00 a.m. PT | Official |
| US Eastern | Wed Nov 11, 1:00 p.m. ET | Our math |
| UK (GMT) | Wed Nov 11, 6:00 p.m. | Our math |
| Spain, France, Germany (CET) | Wed Nov 11, 7:00 p.m. | Our math |
| Japan (JST) | Thu Nov 12, 3:00 a.m. | Our math |
Our math Converted from 10:00 a.m. PST (UTC-8). The United States left daylight saving time on November 1, so Pacific Time on November 11 is standard time, not PDT. GameRant, citing Call of Duty’s official account, also gives 1:00 p.m. ET, which matches that conversion.
What you get, and what you do not
| Included in the trial | Not included | Label |
|---|---|---|
| Full access to DMZ in Modern Warfare 4 | Official Xbox Wire and Steam | Campaign |
| The X01 site (Xbox Wire: a former North Korean weapons facility seized by Russian forces) | Official | Standard multiplayer |
| New DMZ Orders and Threat Assessments | Official | Warzone battle royale (that mode is already free on its own) |
| Deployments across Hajin, solo or in a squad | Official Steam | Owning the paid Modern Warfare 4 release after November 11 |
Official Official store pages are titled as a DMZ free trial, not as the full game. Xbox Wire promises “full access to DMZ” and names X01, new Orders and Threat Assessments. Steam tells players to loot, fight and extract across Hajin. Reported GameRant states outright that the campaign and standard multiplayer stay behind a purchase. That matches how the listings are named. Activision has not said the trial will be extended.
On Xbox, the Microsoft Store listing warns that a mobile phone number may need to be linked to your Activision account, and that an internet connection, a Game Pass Essential subscription and a nominal fee may be required. On PlayStation 5, the store listing says PlayStation Plus is required for online play. Progress and achievements earned during Xbox Free Play Days events normally carry over if you later buy the game; Xbox Wire repeats that usual rule for the weekend trials running alongside this one.
Where to download it
| Platform | Where we verified a listing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox / PC (Microsoft Store) | Xbox Wire and the Xbox Store DMZ Free Trial page | Official Game Pass Essential may be required, per the store legal text |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store product page for the DMZ Free Trial | Official PlayStation Plus required for online play |
| PC (Steam) | Official Steam news post for the Call of Duty app | Same Nov 6–11 window |
| PC (Battle.net) | Reported Insider Gaming | Listed alongside Steam by Insider Gaming |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Reported GameRant | GameRant says dedicated trial listings are live on Switch 2 as well; we have not independently opened a Nintendo eShop trial page |
A short checklist before Wednesday
- Download the DMZ trial listing, not a full-priced Modern Warfare 4 purchase, unless you already planned to buy the game.
- Link an Activision account, and on Xbox be ready to add a phone number if the store asks.
- On Xbox, confirm whether your Game Pass tier is enough; the store text mentions Game Pass Essential.
- On PS5, you need PlayStation Plus for online play.
- Give the download time. Extraction shooters in this family are large, and we do not have an official trial file size to quote.
- If you like DMZ, buy Modern Warfare 4 before the trial ends if you want to keep playing without a gap. Activision has not announced an extension.
This sits next to two other Call of Duty changes from the same week: Warzone left PS4 and Xbox One on November 6, and Warzone launched as a free download on Switch 2 the same day. Warzone itself is already free; this trial is specifically for MW4’s paid DMZ mode.
Key takeaways
- You can play the full Modern Warfare 4 DMZ experience for free until November 11 at 10:00 a.m. PT (7:00 p.m. CET).
- That includes Season 1’s X01 area, new Orders and Threat Assessments. It does not include the campaign or regular multiplayer.
- Official listings are up on Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Steam. Switch 2 coverage comes from GameRant, not from a page we opened ourselves.
- Xbox may require Game Pass Essential; PS5 online play requires PlayStation Plus.
