No. GTA 6 launches on November 19 as a single-player game, with no online mode of its own. Sony’s PlayStation support page calls it “a single-player experience”, and Take-Two told shareholders in September that it will keep supporting the existing GTA Online after GTA 6 is out. Here is what that means, what has leaked about a future online mode, and the free GTA+ month that comes with some pre-orders.
What is official
| Statement | Who said it | Status |
|---|---|---|
| “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.” | PlayStation support page for the GTA VI pre-order offer | Official |
| “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA 6 release and beyond.” | Take-Two, September 2026 shareholder meeting | Official |
| PC is “becoming more and more important” to the company | Take-Two, same meeting | Official no PC date |
| A GTA 6 online mode, its name or date | Not announced | Unknown |
Polygon and other outlets reported the PlayStation wording when it appeared. The PlayStation Store listing also shows “1 player” for GTA 6, as we noted in our platforms guide.
The 32-player clue
Reported Rockstar’s own filings in the UK employment tribunal over the 2025 firings describe an “online 32-player format” as a closely guarded secret, according to Dexerto and GamesRadar+. The filings do not call it GTA 6 Online or give a release date, and the 32-player figure may describe an internal test setup rather than the final lobby size. For context, GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S supports up to 30 players per session. The union side of that case is covered in our Rockstar union article.
History: how long Rockstar waited before
| Game | Launch | Online mode | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | Apr 29, 2008 | Multiplayer built in at launch | 0 days |
| GTA V | Sep 17, 2013 | GTA Online, Oct 1, 2013 | 2 weeks |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Oct 26, 2018 | Red Dead Online beta, Nov 27, 2018 | About 1 month |
| GTA 6 | Nov 19, 2026 | Not announced | ? |
Our math Rockstar has launched online two to four weeks after its last two big games. This time it has said nothing about timing, and it plans to keep GTA Online running, so we would not count on a GTA 6 online mode in 2026.
The free GTA+ month: what you actually get
Official On PlayStation, buying or pre-ordering the digital Standard or Ultimate Edition from the PlayStation Store by November 19, 2026 includes one month of GTA+. GTA+ is the membership for GTA Online and Rockstar’s games library. It does not add multiplayer to GTA 6.
- Claim it by March 31, 2027. One offer per account.
- It renews automatically at the normal monthly price unless you cancel.
- Upgrading from Standard to Ultimate does not qualify, and some countries are excluded.
Full edition prices are in our GTA 6 price guide.
Checklist if you mainly play GTA Online
- Keep GTA V installed. GTA Online is not moving to GTA 6 at launch.
- Check your storage. GTA V and GTA 6 together will need a lot of space; see our console prep checklist.
- Set a reminder before the GTA+ trial renews if you only want the free month.
- Do not buy “GTA 6 Online” items or keys. Nothing has been announced, so any such offer is a scam.
- Watch the Rockstar Newswire. Rockstar announces online plans there first.
